Best Practices for Cleaning Glossy and Matte Tiles

Tiles are a popular choice for floors and walls thanks to their durability, aesthetic appeal, and ease of maintenance. However, glossy and matte tiles require different cleaning methods. To preserve their original appearance and extend their lifespan, it is essential to use the right techniques and appropriate cleaning products.

Discover our tips for effectively cleaning glossy or matte tiles while preserving their elegance over the years.

It is important to adapt the cleaning method according to the tile finish. Glossy and matte tiles have different surface characteristics. Glossy tiles reflect light and create a sense of spaciousness, but they can more easily show water marks, fingerprints, and cleaning product residues. Matte tiles provide a more natural and contemporary look; they better conceal everyday marks, but their texture can retain more dust and dirt.

To clean glossy tiles, follow these steps:

1. Regularly remove dust using a microfiber mop or a vacuum cleaner equipped with a suitable brush attachment.

2. Use warm water with a mild cleaner specifically designed for ceramic floors.

3. Rinse with clean water to remove any product residue.

4. Dry the surface with a dry microfiber cloth or a soft cloth to prevent streaks.

To clean matte tiles, you should:

1. Regularly remove dust using a vacuum cleaner or a microfiber mop.

2. Use a mild cleaning product suitable for ceramic coatings.

3. Treat localized stains with a non-abrasive sponge and a little mild cleaner, then rinse thoroughly.

It is important to avoid certain mistakes to preserve the quality of your tiles, such as using highly acidic or alkaline products, unsuitable detergents, abrasive powders, metal sponges, waxy products, or over-dosing detergents.

Porcelain stoneware is an excellent choice for tiles, unlike other natural stones that are porous (marble, travertine, etc.), as it is known for its low porosity and its resistance to scratches, moisture, and stains. With simple, regular maintenance, it retains its aesthetic appearance for many years, both indoors and outdoors.

At Carthago Ceramic, we design porcelain stoneware tiles that combine aesthetics, performance, and ease of maintenance. Our collections are designed to meet the requirements of homeowners, architects, and construction professionals, while guaranteeing excellent everyday resistance.
